Supply Chain

Lead Time

What is lead time in supply chain management?

Lead time is the total time from placing an order to receiving the goods. It includes supplier processing, manufacturing, shipping, customs clearance, and last-mile delivery. In East African supply chains, lead times are highly variable — a shipment through Mombasa port can take 2 days or 2 weeks depending on congestion, and inland delivery adds further uncertainty.
